About Jewel Caraway

My name is Jewel, and welcome to my site! I started it to help people find out more about family law and divorce attorneys after my own experience. I have to tell you--getting a divorce is never pleasant, but sometimes it's the only option. I won't go into details, but in my old marriage I just had to get me and my kids out. But the legal stuff was a pain to deal with. Not to say it wasn't worth it, but it was definitely hard to navigate. Divorce papers, the custody battle--if you don't have a guide and a good lawyer, it is so difficult. So the purpose of this site is to help you work the system. Good luck making a better life for yourself!

What Are Your Options for Divorce?

If you are considering divorce, you may have become overwhelmed by the sheer number of divorce options out there. While divorce can be pretty straightforward, the truth is that there are plenty of other options for divorce that you may not have considered.

Want to know which kind of divorce is right for you? These are some of the options you should consider.

Standard Divorce

Most divorces are standard. They can be contested or uncontested. An uncontested divorce is relatively fast and easy with very little resistance. In some cases, it is as easy as filing paperwork and waiting for the divorce to be finalized.

In other cases, like when divorce is contested, your case will go to court. This can take days, weeks, or months so that you can divvy out assets and liabilities, ensuring that both parties get what the court is deemed as fair.

Of course, standard divorce is not ideal in every situation.

Separation

You may find that separation is ideal in your situation, at least for now. If you are still unsure how to separate assets and liabilities in your marriage, you may choose to separate. Your lawyer can help you make sure that a legal separation suits your best interests.

Divorce Via Mediation

Your lawyer may recommend mediation if you have some issues to work out with your spouse but you are not in contention with them. Mediation allows for the clear and gentle resolution of major conflicts that arise at the end of a marriage. While a lawyer can advise you about mediation, you will not have a lawyer representing you when you come in for mediation.

For example, you might disagree about who will get the kids this Christmas. The unbiased mediator will talk you through to a resolution without lawyers present.

Divorce Via Collaboration

Collaboration is similar to mediation in that it allows both of you to work together, but you can each have a lawyer involved in the process. Your divorce lawyer can be in the room as you work through the issues related to your divorce. This helps you protect your rights and ensures you are not agreeing to something that could hurt you in the future.

Divorce With a Lawyer

As you move through the process of divorce, it is important that you consult with a lawyer. A lawyer can help you decide which divorce solution will work best for you. Call a divorce lawyer today to make a plan.
